Beast of War

People keep complaining I never paint the speed paintings, so I decided to paint a topic I skipped :) I used a method Gabe showed me to first layout shapes in solid color, and then go over that with the brush tool for lines (no pre pencil work), I kinda made this up as I went along so its not really taking the topic in a creative direction.

It's nice to see you try a new technique and this is a cool design. However, you are treating the new technique almost the same as if you drew this with pencil in the first place. It looks to me like a pencil sketch with some quick marker tone. I think you need to get brave and get some contrast in your forms right off the bat. Don't worry too much about precise lines, just get the forms in. The purpose of painting shapes first is to focus on the volume of the form, then think about detail second. This is a cool drawing, but I'd like to see you evolve your style even more.
